Fulfilled by TikTok: how the FBT warehouse works for a small seller

By Nation 9 min read

Quick answer

Fulfilled by TikTok (FBT) is TikTok Shop's own warehouse programme: you send stock to its fulfillment centers, and FBT handles storage, packing, and shipping. You pay a fulfillment fee charged on a per-unit basis that covers pick, pack, packaging, and last-mile shipping to the shopper, storage is free for the first 60 days, and FBT products get free shipping by default. It suits ready-made stock that sells steadily; made-to-order handmade goods usually fit self-shipping better.

What Fulfilled by TikTok is

Fulfilled by TikTok, often shortened to FBT, is the TikTok Shop fulfillment service run by TikTok itself. TikTok describes it as an in-house service that handles storage, packing, and shipping for the seller. You keep listing and promoting products in Seller Center, but the physical work after an order moves to a TikTok Shop warehouse.

The network is built from hubs on both coasts and 14 fulfillment centers. TikTok says FBT aims to ship within 24 hours of receiving the order and offers a 3-day shipping service that covers over 80% of U.S orders. Eligible products also receive a “Free 3-Day Delivery” tag in search results and recommendations.

This page covers the warehouse programme only. If you pack orders yourself and buy labels through TikTok Shop or your own carrier, the rules for that are on the TikTok Shop shipping guide linked at the end of this page.

TikTok Shop fulfillment: FBT compared with shipping it yourself

A TikTok Shop order ships either from you (or a 3PL you hire) or from an FBT warehouse. The table sets the two side by side on the points that matter most to a small seller. Values come from TikTok Shop Seller University.

The referral fee does not change with fulfillment. TikTok Shop charges its referral fee (6% per order in most categories) either way, and the FBT fee comes on top of it.

How to join FBT and send your first inbound shipment

TikTok lays out a short onboarding path in Seller Center. Access may start as a waitlist, so you may not be able to send stock the same day you apply.

  1. Apply in Seller Center

Open Seller Center, choose Fulfilled by TikTok, and select "Join the Waitlist" / "Get Started". The FBT Portal is where you manage stock, inbound shipments and fees from then on.

  2. Pick the products to send

TikTok has already imported your SKUs from Seller Center to FBT Portal. In the Goods section of the portal, add the missing details such as barcodes, expiration date.

  3. Create an inbound shipment

An inbound shipment is the plan for the stock you are sending: which SKUs, how many, and where they go. You can route it through a TikTok hub, such as the East or West Hubs, for a placement fee, or ship directly to fulfillment centers, which will not incur a hub placement fee if you follow TikTok's routing rules.

  4. Send the stock and track it

For freight you book delivery appointments with FBT if inventory is sent in pallets. For small parcels you fill in tracking ID so the warehouse can see the shipment coming. Stock that arrives different from the plan can trigger a routing non-compliance fee from $0.50 per unit.

Fulfilled by TikTok fees: what you pay for

FBT costs fall into a few groups. TikTok publishes the exact per-unit amounts in rate card images on Seller University. The card lists dated changes, so check the current version before you price a product. The table lists what each fee is charged on.

TikTok says sellers can cut per-order costs by about 20% to 35% on average compared with mainstream carriers, based on its own internal data. Treat that as TikTok's claim, and compare it with your own label costs for your own product size.

FBT fees for a US TikTok Shop seller
FeeWhat it covers or how it works
Fulfillment feeCovers pick, pack, packaging, and last-mile shipping to the shopper; charged on a per-unit basis, when orders are delivered and deducted directly from your revenue
Chargeable weightA unit at or under 2lb and 332 in³ is charged on actual weight; above that, the greater of actual weight and Length × Width × Height ÷ 166 (in inches)
Multi-unit ordersSeparate multi-unit rates apply to two or more units fulfilled by FBT from the same seller in one checkout
StorageFree for the first 60 days; then calculated daily at 23:59, based on the total cubic feet of all your units, with discounts of 14% to 43% on inventory stored up to 270 days
Hub placementOptional, when you route through the East or West Hubs; direct shipping to fulfillment centers will not incur a hub placement fee
Inbound incidentsRouting non-compliance from $0.50 per unit, plus other inbound incident fees; examples of non-compliance include sending shipments to incorrect locations, mislabeling, or failing to meet quantity requirements
Customer returnsitemized per-unit fees, assessed based on the type of service you select in your setting and the final disposition of your returned product
Removing stockFreight back to you at $0.39 per lb; parcel removal determined based on the weight and dimensions of the returned package
Creator samplesthe standard per-unit FBT fulfillment fee

Two rules help a small seller. Orders to Alaska and Hawaii carry no additional surcharges. If your product already ships safely in its own box, the Ship In Original Container (SIOC) discount gives a fulfillment fee discount. It applies only to single unit orders, and you must meet FBT’s packaging standards and complete the SIOC certification process.

Free shipping on FBT orders, and the opt-out

All FBT products get free shipping by default, with no minimum order. The shopper pays nothing for shipping, and you pay the normal fulfillment fee.

Sellers with low-priced items can opt out. Opted-out units fall back to a $30 free shipping threshold, and shoppers below it pay a flat $5.99 shipping fee. You continue to be charged the standard FBT fulfillment fee per unit, and TikTok pays you a $0.75 reimbursement per unit on those orders. TikTok warns that opted-out products may see reduced sales performance.

What fits in a TikTok Shop warehouse

Each unit must weigh no more than 150 lbs, with no side longer than 108 inches. Most handmade goods sit far below that. The more useful limit for a maker is how the item is packed.

Bundles must arrive ready to ship, because FBT currently does not offer kitting services. If you sell a gift set of three candles, pack and seal it as one unit before it goes into the inbound shipment, because the warehouse will not assemble it for you.

When self-shipping a handmade product fits better

FBT works when you can make stock ahead and predict roughly how much will sell in the free storage window. It works less well for one-off or personalised pieces. Example: a seller who engraves a name on each wooden board cannot send finished boards to a warehouse before the order arrives, so the order has to ship from the workshop.

  • Use FBT for ready-made items with steady sales, such as a best-selling candle scent, a standard print size or a restocked skincare product.
  • Ship it yourself for made-to-order, personalised or one-of-a-kind items, and for products that sell a few units a month.
  • Ship it yourself if stock might sit past the first 60 days, because storage is calculated daily at 23:59, based on the total cubic feet of all your units.
  • Consider a mix: send your best seller to FBT and keep the rest of the range on self-shipping. Each order is fulfilled by whoever holds that item.
  • If you work with affiliate creators, FBT can send creator samples for you, charged at the standard per-unit FBT fulfillment fee.

Questions about Fulfilled by TikTok

What is TikTok FBT?

TikTok FBT stands for Fulfilled by TikTok, the TikTok Shop warehouse service that handles storage, packing, and shipping for sellers. You send stock to its fulfillment centers, and orders ship from there. TikTok says FBT ships within 24 hours of receiving the order, and eligible products show a “Free 3-Day Delivery” tag.

How much are Fulfilled by TikTok fees?

Fulfilled by TikTok fees start with a fulfillment fee charged on a per-unit basis, covering pick, pack, packaging, and last-mile shipping to the shopper. Storage is free for the first 60 days, then charged by volume. Optional hub placement, return handling and incident fees can apply. TikTok publishes exact amounts on its FBT rate card.

Is TikTok Shop warehouse storage free?

TikTok Shop warehouse storage is free for the first 60 days of each inbound shipment. After that, storage is calculated daily at 23:59, based on the total cubic feet of all your units, including defective units. TikTok gives discounts of 14% to 43% on inventory stored up to 270 days, but slow-selling stock still costs money over time.

How do I join TikTok Shop FBT?

You join TikTok Shop FBT from Seller Center by choosing Fulfilled by TikTok and selecting "Join the Waitlist" / "Get Started". Your SKUs are imported into the FBT Portal, where you add details such as barcodes, expiration date, create an inbound shipment and send the stock. Access can start as a waitlist.

Do FBT orders get free shipping on TikTok Shop?

FBT orders on TikTok Shop get free shipping by default, with no minimum order value. Sellers can opt out, in which case a $30 threshold applies and shoppers below it pay $5.99. The seller still pays the standard fulfillment fee and gets a $0.75 reimbursement per unit.

Should a handmade seller use a TikTok Shop fulfillment center?

A handmade seller should use a TikTok Shop fulfillment center only for items made ahead in batches that sell steadily. Personalised, made-to-order or one-off pieces cannot sit in a warehouse before the order, so they ship from your own workspace. Many makers send one best seller to FBT and self-ship the rest.
