Quick answer
Stripe sends a new account its first payout within 7–14 days after the first live payment, depending on your industry, country of operation, and risk level. After that, a US account's card funds settle in 2 business days and are paid out on the schedule you pick: daily, weekly, monthly or manual. Payouts on the standard schedule are for free, and Instant Payouts cost 1.5%, minimum fee of 50¢ once your account is eligible.

When Stripe pays out to a new US account
Stripe pays out money from your available balance to your bank account. For a new account, the first Stripe payout comes within 7–14 days after you receive your first live payment. Stripe says the exact timing depends on your industry, country of operation, and risk level, so two new accounts can wait different amounts of time.
Once the first payout has gone through, later payouts follow your payout schedule and your settlement timing. For a US account, card payments become available 2 business days after the payment is confirmed or captured. Your bank can take extra time to show the money after it arrives.
The table shows the main timings a US seller meets, from the first sale to money in the bank.
Stripe payout schedules: daily, weekly, monthly or manual
Your payout schedule decides when Stripe sends money to your bank. You choose it during onboarding or update it any time in the Stripe Dashboard. There are four options.
Payouts scheduled on weekends or holidays arrive on the next business day. Stripe processes payments and payouts in UTC time for US accounts, so the processed date can differ from your local date late in the day.
A schedule changes when money is sent, not how fast it becomes available. In Stripe's words: It only controls when payouts are sent. On a daily schedule, each payout holds the funds from payments captured 2 business days earlier.
Settlement timing: why a payout does not include today's sales
Settlement timing is the time between a payment and the moment that money becomes part of your available balance. Stripe writes it as T plus a number of days, where T is the time the payment was confirmed or captured. A US account's default for cards is 2 business days.
Bank payments take longer than cards. ACH Debit payments settle in 4 business days, because bank payments can be returned or reversed. Stripe offers eligible US merchants faster ACH settlement that cuts the wait from 4 business days to 2 business days from payment creation.
Settlement also explains why a payout can look smaller than the day's sales. Payments that have not reached the end of their settlement time stay in your pending balance and join a later payout.
Manual payouts and same-day payouts in the US
If you turn off automatic payouts, you send each payout yourself and decide the amount. Stripe says manual payouts take 1–4 business days to reach your bank after you start them.
US accounts on T+2 settlement timing or slower can get same-day manual payouts. A manual payout started before 5 pm US/Eastern qualifies, up to 10 same-day manual payouts per day with a maximum of 1 million USD each. Other US manual payouts typically arrive within 1 business day.
There is a small minimum. A US account needs at least 0.01 USD available before Stripe can pay anything out. Any smaller balance stays in your Stripe account until more payments come in.
Stripe Instant Payouts: speed, limits and eligibility
Instant Payouts send money to a debit card or a supported bank account without waiting for your schedule. You can request one any day or time, including weekends and holidays, and the money typically arrives within 30 minutes. Anything you do not pay out instantly still goes out on your normal schedule.
New Stripe users aren’t immediately eligible for Instant Payouts. Stripe shows your eligibility, and the amount you can pay out instantly, in the Dashboard. These rules apply to a US account:
- Fee: 1.5%, minimum fee of 50¢ on each Instant Payout, according to Stripe's pricing page. Stripe's Instant Payouts documentation lists the same 1.5% rate for US accounts.
- Size of each payout: at least 0.50 USD and at most 9,999 USD.
- Daily limits: a maximum amount per day shown in your Dashboard, and a maximum of 10 Instant Payouts per day. The daily count resets at Midnight US Central Time.
- Card payments: available for an Instant Payout as soon as the charge is complete.
- ACH and other bank debits: only available for Instant Payouts after the payment has settled.
- Where the money can go: Debit card; some bank accounts.
What an instant payout costs on Stripe, PayPal and Square
Stripe pays out on its standard schedule for free, PayPal lists No Fee (when no currency conversion is involved) for a standard withdrawal, and Square sends standard transfers the next business day. The chart shows what each one charges to move $500 to your bank or debit card straight away, using each company's own published rate.
- Stripe baseline $7.50 standard payouts free Instant Payout 1.5% $7.50
- PayPal $7.50 standard withdrawals free Instant withdrawal 1.5% $7.50
- Square $9.75 standard next-business-day transfers Instant transfer 1.95% $9.75
Example: a $500 instant payout in US dollars, with no currency conversion. Stripe's fee is 1.5%, minimum fee of 50¢ and PayPal's minimum fee is 0.50 USD; neither minimum fee applies at this amount. Square limits new sellers to one instant transfer per day of up to $2,000.
Failed payouts and negative balances
If your bank cannot accept a payout, it returns the money to Stripe. That can take up to 5 additional business days, and a payout can show as paid at first and then change to failed. Stripe tells you by email and in the Dashboard. Re-enter your bank details to check them, and Stripe tries again at the next scheduled payout.
Wrong details are the seller's risk. Stripe sends money to the account number and routing number you enter, and says it might not recover funds sent to the wrong account.
A balance can also go below zero, for example when refunds are larger than new payments. If no new payments cover the gap, Stripe creates a payout that debits your bank account. Your bank account has to accept both credits and debits for this reason.
How to set up Stripe payouts for a US account
Stripe accepts checking and savings accounts, and also virtual bank accounts (such as N26, Revolut, and Wise), although it notes that non-standard accounts fail more often.
Add your bank account
Open Payout settings in the Stripe Dashboard and add your routing number and account number. The bank account currency has to match the currency in your payout settings.
Pick a payout schedule
Choose daily, weekly, monthly or manual. You can do this during onboarding or update it any time in the Stripe Dashboard.
Take your first live payment
The first payout is scheduled after it, usually within 7–14 days later.
Track the payout
The Dashboard lists each payout and its expected deposit date. If one fails, check the bank details and resume payouts.
Check Instant Payouts later
New Stripe users aren’t immediately eligible for Instant Payouts. Once the Dashboard shows an instant amount, add a debit card or supported bank account to use it.

Describe what you makeQuestions about Stripe payouts
How long does Stripe take to pay out the first time?
Stripe schedules a new account's first payout to arrive within 7–14 days after the first live payment. The exact timing depends on your industry, country of operation, and risk level. After the first payout, a US account's card funds settle in 2 business days and go out on the payout schedule you chose.
How often does Stripe pay out?
Stripe pays out on the schedule you choose: daily, weekly, monthly or manual. On a daily schedule, Stripe automatically transfers your available funds every business day. Weekly and monthly schedules let you pick days, for example payouts on Mondays and Thursdays, or on the 1st and 15th of each month. Payouts that fall on weekends or holidays arrive on the next business day.
Does Stripe charge a fee for payouts?
Stripe charges no fee for standard payouts; its pricing page says you can pay out on the standard schedule for free. Instant Payouts are the exception and cost 1.5%, minimum fee of 50¢ for a US account. Card processing fees on the original payments are charged separately.
Why can't I use Stripe Instant Payouts?
Stripe Instant Payouts are not open to every account straight away: New Stripe users aren’t immediately eligible for Instant Payouts. Stripe shows eligibility and the instant amount in the Dashboard. You also need a debit card or supported bank account, and each payout must be at least 0.50 USD.
Does Stripe pay out on weekends?
Stripe's standard payouts scheduled on a weekend or holiday arrive on the next business day. Instant Payouts are different: you can request one any day or time, including weekends and holidays, and the money typically arrives within 30 minutes. Instant Payouts cost 1.5%, minimum fee of 50¢ for a US account.
