Quick answer
An eBay payout is the money eBay sends from your sales, after fees are automatically deducted, to your checking account or Visa or Mastercard debit card. Payouts run daily by default and typically start 2 days after the buyer's payment is confirmed, then take 1-3 business days to clear at your bank. New sellers often wait longer because of transaction holds, for example 2 days after delivery confirmation for a new private seller using an eBay label.

How an eBay payout works, from sale to bank
An eBay payout is the transfer of your sales money from eBay to your own account. eBay manages the end-to-end payments process: the buyer pays eBay, eBay takes its selling fees and other costs, and the rest is paid out to your checking account or Visa or Mastercard debit card. Fees are automatically deducted before the money reaches you.
Your money moves through a few statuses in the Payments tab of Seller Hub. Right after the sale it shows as Processing funds. It typically takes 1-2 days from confirming the buyer's payment for the money to show as Available for payout, unless the order is on hold. Then eBay starts the payout on your schedule, and it shows as Funds sent. From there your bank typically needs 1-3 business days to make the money usable.
Once eBay has sent a payout, the money has left eBay. If it has not arrived after the bank's clearing time, the bank is the place to ask, using the bank reference ID that eBay lists in the payout details.
How long does eBay take to pay?
For an established seller on the default daily schedule, the full path from a confirmed payment to money in a checking account is the payout start time plus the bank's clearing time: 2 days for eBay to start the payout, then 1-3 business days at the bank.
Three things make it longer. A transaction hold delays the point at which the money becomes available. A weekly, biweekly or monthly schedule means available money waits for the next payout day. Weekends and bank holidays push a payout to a later day, covered below.
One thing makes it shorter: express payouts to a verified debit card or eligible bank account, which typically arrive within 30 minutes for a fee of $2.00 each.
- Example: an established seller on daily payouts sells an item and the buyer's payment is confirmed. The payout typically starts 2 days later and reaches a checking account 1-3 business days after that.
- Example: the same sale for a new private seller who ships with a third-party label. The funds are typically held until 7 days after delivery confirmation, and only then follow the payout schedule.
The eBay payout schedule: daily, weekly, biweekly or monthly
eBay starts payouts daily by default. You can switch to a less frequent schedule in Seller Hub under Payments, then Payout Settings, or under Payments in My eBay. A less frequent schedule groups your money into fewer, larger transfers.
On a daily schedule, a payout that eBay starts on a Saturday or Sunday to a bank account is processed on Monday. If a scheduled payout falls on a bank holiday, eBay sends it on the next available payout day.
On-demand and express payouts
On-demand payouts let you withdraw available money between scheduled payouts. They are open to sellers on a weekly, biweekly or monthly payout schedule. On daily payouts, you won’t be able to request your available funds on demand, because daily is already the fastest schedule. You request the money with Withdraw in the Payments tab, either all of it or a chosen amount. Processing funds and funds on hold cannot be withdrawn this way.
Express payouts are the paid fast option. Once your bank account or debit card is verified as an express payout method, eBay can send scheduled payouts in minutes or an on-demand payout that your bank typically makes available within 30 minutes. Each express payout costs a flat $2.00, which eBay takes from your funds before sending them along with selling costs and other fees.
Transaction holds on new sellers
A transaction hold means the buyer has paid but eBay keeps the money from that order until the transaction looks complete. Holds can apply to one high-priced order, or to all of a seller's orders for a period, which is the case for new sellers. In most cases the funds are released after the buyer has received their item, and the held money can be used to refund the buyer on that same order if needed.
How long a new seller waits depends on the type of account and how the item ships. Tracking matters most: eBay uses it to see when the item was delivered.
A new private seller moves to faster funds after meeting both of eBay's criteria: at least 10 completed sales with a combined total of $150 or more within the last 5 years, and no more than 2 open requests, cases, or transaction defects in the last 12 months. Sales with a refund, return, chargeback, cancellation or case do not count. After that, funds typically become available within 48 hours of the buyer's payment.
Holds can come back. Sellers who were restricted or suspended get transaction holds for the 30 days after it is lifted, and a sudden jump in order volume or unusual activity can bring holds back on future orders.
Money on hold is not frozen for every use: you can use your On hold funds to buy shipping labels on eBay, and those labels upload tracking automatically, which also helps release the next hold sooner.
Payout holds and failed payouts
A payout hold is different from a transaction hold. It stops money that is already available from being sent, usually until an issue with your account is fixed, and the payout shows as Blocked. eBay puts a banner on your account and sends a message explaining what it needs.
- Registration holds: the details you gave when registering do not match what eBay can verify.
- Compliance holds: eBay needs more information to meet legal or policy requirements.
- Performance holds: unusual activity, such as more buyer claims, late deliveries or negative feedback.
- Invalid payment method: eBay cannot take selling costs from any payment method on file.
- Tax information: eBay may hold payouts if we can’t validate your Form W-9 for tax returns.
A payout marked Returned or Canceled usually points to wrong bank details or a problem at the bank. Check the account details in the Payments tab first, then ask your bank. A canceled payout goes back into your available funds.
How to set up eBay payouts without delays
Most payout delays for new sellers come from verification. These steps follow eBay's seller registration help page.
Link the right account
Add your checking account or Visa or Mastercard debit card. eBay does not accept a savings account or a PayPal account for payouts. The names on the bank account and the eBay account should match.
Match the account type
If you have a business eBay account, you need a business checking account to register as a seller. A personal eBay account uses a checking account in your own name.
Verify the bank
Logging in to your bank from the list eBay shows is the fastest way. The alternative is two microdeposits, which can take up to 4 business days to arrive.
Give tax and identity details
eBay asks for a Social Security, Employer Identification or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number, and may ask for a photo ID. Payouts can be held until these are verified.
Ship with tracking
Upload tracking within your handling time, or buy labels on eBay. Without tracking, a new private seller waits 31 days after the buyer pays for the money.

Describe what you makeQuestions about eBay payouts
How long does eBay take to pay sellers?
eBay typically takes 1-2 days to make sale money available, and a daily payout typically starts 2 days after the buyer's payment is confirmed. Your bank then needs about 1-3 business days. New sellers can wait longer because of transaction holds, which usually end after the buyer receives the item.
What is eBay managed payments?
eBay managed payments is the system in which eBay manages the end-to-end payments process. Buyers pay eBay, eBay deducts selling fees and other costs, and it pays the rest to your checking account or Visa or Mastercard debit card. Fees come out before the money is sent, and eBay does not accept a savings account or a PayPal account for payouts.
What is the eBay payout schedule?
The eBay payout schedule is daily by default. You can switch to weekly payouts, which start on Tuesdays, biweekly payouts every second Tuesday, or monthly payouts on the first Tuesday of every month. Change it in Seller Hub under Payments and Payout Settings. Non-daily schedules can also withdraw available funds on demand.
Why is my eBay payout on hold?
An eBay payout is usually on hold for one of two reasons. A transaction hold keeps one order's money until delivery, which is common for new sellers. A payout hold blocks available money until an account issue is fixed, such as unverified registration details, an invalid payment method or a Form W-9 problem.
Can I get my eBay money faster?
You can get eBay money faster with an express payout to a verified debit card or eligible bank account. It typically arrives within 30 minutes and costs $2.00 per payout. New private sellers also get faster funds, within 48 hours of the buyer's payment, once they meet eBay's sales and case criteria.
