How Poshmark works for a seller
You list an item from the app or the website. A buyer pays the listed price or sends an offer that you accept. Poshmark emails you a prepaid label, you ship, and once the buyer has the item, Poshmark releases your earnings within 3 days of delivery.
You pay nothing up front. When an item sells, Poshmark's seller policy says it will deduct applicable fees from the final order price before paying you, so there is no separate bill. The table lists the costs and limits for a US seller.
What a Poshmark seller can list, including clothing you make or source
Poshmark's seller policy welcomes most types of new and pre-owned fashion. If you make clothing or buy stock to resell, the rules that matter most are about having the item in hand, showing it honestly and how you use brand names.
- You must have possession of, and ship, the actual item described in the listing. Sellers may not list a promise for a future item, so a made-to-order piece cannot be listed before it exists.
- Listings must include your original photos of the items, with the condition and any flaws described, so use photos you took yourself rather than a supplier's images.
- If you have several identical pieces, one listing can hold them all: choose Quantity > Multiple / Multi Item when you list.
- Poshmark's list of items you cannot sell includes listings that utilize a trademarked name to describe or promote an item, such as calling your own design 'inspired by' a designer brand.
- It also prohibits listings that take portions of branded items, like the buttons of a designer jacket, and repurposing them into other items. If you upcycle branded clothing, check this rule before you list.
How to sell on Poshmark for beginners: the first listing
These steps follow Poshmark's own listing instructions for the app. The website asks for the same fields in the same order.
Open Sell and add photos
Select Sell at the bottom of the screen and take or upload up to 16 photos. Poshmark recommends at least 4 images per item, sized to 1000 x 1000 pixels. Show the piece worn or on a form, then add close-ups of the fabric, the label and any flaws.
Write the title
The title can be 80 characters max. Put in the brand, style, category, size and color, the words a buyer types into search. For a piece you make, use your own label name and the garment type.
Write the description
Give the condition, measurements, fabric content and how it fits. Measurements matter on Poshmark because items that do not fit, or orders where the Buyer changed their mind are not covered by its return protection.
Choose category and size
Pick the category, then the size. Poshmark recommends standardized size options to ensure your listings appear when the My Size filter is applied, so avoid custom sizes unless the piece has no standard one.
Set the original price and the listing price
Both are required. For a piece with no retail price, Poshmark says to give your best estimate or list the Original Price as $0. For the listing price, the Suggested Price tool works from the historical selling prices of similar listings. If you plan to accept offers, set the listing price above the lowest price you would take.
Add a shipping discount only if you mean to
A listing shipping discount is optional, and it is deducted from a seller’s net earnings, so it lowers what you keep on the sale.
Publish
Select Next, then List. Listing is free, and the item appears in your closet, where buyers can like it, buy it or send an offer.
Shipping a sale with the prepaid label
The buyer pays a flat $6.49 for shipping, and Poshmark sends the seller the label. Sellers must use Poshmark’s provided shipping labels when shipping all orders.
Enter your details on the first sale
Before your first label is issued, Poshmark asks for your legal personal details and any applicable business information. Use your legal name: the name on your payout account should match the legal name or business entity linked to your Poshmark account.
Get the label
When the item sells, Poshmark sends a prepaid, pre-addressed shipping label to your email address. Without a printer, generate a QR code instead, take the package to a USPS Post Office and show your shipping QR Code to a retail associate.
Pack the item
Ship in either a USPS Ground Advantage box or any non-branded boxes and envelopes you have at home. USPS Priority Mail packaging can no longer be used to ship Poshmark orders: Poshmark's shipping help says USPS charges a $5 fee for using Priority Mail packaging, deducted from your redeemable balance. The standard label covers up to five pounds (5 lbs), which includes the weight of the box and any packaging materials. For heavier parcels, upgraded labels for shipments over 5 lbs, up to 15 lbs must be purchased by the Seller, and 15 lbs is the most one order can weigh.
Ship on time
Ship within seven (7) days from the date the order was purchased. Poshmark can cancel any order still unshipped by the 14th day after purchase, and unshipped or cancelled orders at 3% or more of your total orders within a rolling 90-day period count against your standing as a seller.
Keep to the Poshmark label
The label carries the tracking that Poshmark uses to follow the order. If you ship with a label of your own, Poshmark is unable to reimburse for packages lost in transit.
Offers and bundles on Poshmark
Buyers can pay the listed price or send an offer. You can accept, decline, or counter, and an offer with no response expires after 24 hours. Offer purchases are binding and cannot be cancelled as an accidental purchase, so accept only a price you are ready to ship at.
Offer to Likers sends a private discount to the people who liked a listing. The first offer must be 10% below the current listing price, and later offers to the same likers must be 10% below the lowest offer they received within a 90-day period. Each one includes a shipping discount, which is deducted from your seller earnings.
A public price drop of at least 10% notifies everyone who liked the listing. If you would rather not answer every offer yourself, Smart Sell can send, counter and accept offers on your behalf.
A Bundle lets a buyer buy several listings from your closet in one order and pay a single $6.49 shipping fee, provided the total package weight does not exceed 5 lbs. That suits makers and resellers with related pieces, such as a top and a matching skirt.
You can also build a Bundle for a buyer. Share a listing to a specific user and it is automatically added to their Bundle. From the Bundle page you can send a private Bundle offer, with a shipping discount if you choose. It expires after 24 hours if the buyer does not reply.
When a Poshmark seller gets paid
Poshmark releases the money to your Poshmark balance within 3 days of delivery. Its return policy starts from one rule: All sales are final on Poshmark. A buyer can still report a problem within 3 days of delivery if the item is not as described or is the wrong item, which is why clear photos and measurements protect your payout.
The table lists each payout option with its fee and typical time, as Poshmark's support center states them.
Sellers with a return address in Texas have one more deduction, the Texas Seller Fee Tax: additional tax deducted for Texas sellers since October 1st, 2025. Poshmark charges it on 80% of the seller fee.
What Poshmark keeps from a $30 sale
Poshmark's seller fee is a share of the sale, and the buyer pays for the shipping label on top. The chart shows what the seller pays on the same $30 sale on Poshmark, Depop and eBay, using each one's published rates.
- Depop $1.44 no monthly plan Processing 3.3% + $0.45 $1.44
- eBay $4.48 no monthly plan Final value 13.6% $4.08, Per order $0.40
- Poshmark baseline $6 no monthly plan Commission 20% $6
Assumes a $30 item, a US seller and buyer, no promotions or boosts, and no sales tax. eBay uses its most-categories rate and assumes the listing is within its 250 free listings a month. Each fee is applied to the item price only: Depop charges its processing fee on item sale price plus shipping costs and any applicable taxes, and eBay charges on the order total, including shipping and sales tax, so on those two the fee also covers shipping.
Is Poshmark worth it for clothing you make or source?
Poshmark suits sellers who want buyers already shopping for clothing, without buying postage or setting up a checkout. The cost is the commission: on a $30 sale Poshmark keeps $6, against $1.44 on Depop and $4.48 on eBay.
Example: a top that costs you $10 in materials and sells for $30. Poshmark keeps $6, the buyer pays the shipping, and you keep the rest, less the $10 in materials and before your time. Run the same sum with any shipping discount or Offer to Likers you plan to send, since both come out of your earnings.
Poshmark fits less well for made-to-order work, because the item has to exist before you list it, and for heavy pieces that need an upgraded label. If the commission is the deciding factor, compare Depop and eBay on the same sale, or sell through a store of your own alongside Poshmark.
