Quick answer
Nation is being submitted to the ChatGPT app directory; until it is listed, you add it as a custom MCP app in developer mode, with https://mcp.withnation.ai/mcp as the server URL. Full MCP support, including actions that change your store, is available on ChatGPT Business, Enterprise and Edu, in beta, and custom MCP apps run on ChatGPT web only. On Pro, developer mode connects MCP servers with read and fetch permissions only.
Nation publishes this guide about its own connector. The steps for ChatGPT come from its maker's own documentation, checked 13 Oct 2026. See where Nation fits.
What you need before you connect
Nation is being submitted to the ChatGPT app directory. Until it is listed, you add Nation yourself as a custom MCP app, which needs developer mode.
- A ChatGPT plan that supports custom MCP apps. Full MCP support, including actions that change your store, is available on ChatGPT Business, Enterprise and Edu, in beta.
- ChatGPT on the web: custom MCP apps are web only.
- On a Business plan, an admin or owner: only admins and owners can turn on developer mode and add an app.
- A Nation account and a store with an active plan.
- The Nation server URL: https://mcp.withnation.ai/mcp
Add Nation to ChatGPT as a custom MCP app
These steps follow OpenAI's help article on developer mode and MCP apps.
Turn on developer mode
On a Business plan, an admin or owner turns it on while creating the app, from Workspace settings > Apps > Create. On Enterprise or Edu, a member with access turns it on in Settings > Apps > Advanced settings. On Pro, developer mode has to stay on to use custom apps; OpenAI's article does not give a separate path for Pro.
Create the app
Go to Apps > Create: in Workspace settings if you are an admin or owner, or in your own settings otherwise. Enter Nation as the name and https://mcp.withnation.ai/mcp as the MCP server endpoint.
Choose OAuth
Pick OAuth as the authentication method. Nation supports dynamic client registration, so there is no client ID or API key to get from Nation.
Scan the tools
Select Scan Tools. ChatGPT opens Nation's sign-in; finish the Nation steps in the next section, wait for the scan to finish, then select Create.
Find the app
The app appears under Settings > Apps > Enabled Apps with a Dev label. On Business and Enterprise plans it is a draft until an admin or owner publishes it from Workspace settings > Apps > Drafts > Publish.
Use it in a chat
Start a chat and select Nation from the tools menu, or mention it in your prompt. The choice applies to that message, so @mention Nation again when a follow-up needs new data or another action.
If ChatGPT shows Plugins instead of Apps
OpenAI's developer documentation describes a newer screen for the same thing. Go to ChatGPT Plugins at chatgpt.com/plugins; select the plus button, then Add custom MCP server. Enter Nation as the name and a short description, enter https://mcp.withnation.ai/mcp as the MCP server URL under Connection, set up authentication, read the risk warning and select I understand and want to continue, then select Create as a plugin.
Install the plugin, start a new conversation, type @ in the prompt box and select Nation.
Sign in to Nation and choose your store
The Nation side is the same for every assistant.
Sign in with your email
ChatGPT opens app.withnation.ai/mcp-auth. Enter the email you use for Nation and the one-time code Nation sends you. There is no password and no API key to copy.
Choose the account
If your email belongs to more than one Nation account, choose the one that owns the store.
Choose the store
Pick the store ChatGPT may work with. One connection reaches one store. A store without an active plan is shown but cannot be picked.
Select Connect
Nation creates a key for that store named after the assistant and ending in (MCP), then sends you back to ChatGPT.
What ChatGPT can do in your store
Once Nation is connected, ChatGPT works in the one store you picked, through Nation's tools.
Read tools only read. Tools that delete, refund, cancel or reach outside Nation are marked as destructive or open-world, so the assistant can ask you before it runs them. Changes it makes are saved in your store like any other change.
What to ask ChatGPT once Nation is connected
Ask in plain words, the same way you would ask a person who runs the store with you:
- Which products sold best this month?
- Show me orders that still need to be fulfilled.
- What is running low on stock?
- Create a 15% discount code for returning customers.
- Make the homepage headline shorter, then publish the storefront.
Disconnect Nation from ChatGPT
Sign in to Nation
Sign in at app.withnation.ai with your email and the one-time code.
Open Settings, then Developer
This page lists the keys that assistants use to reach your store.
Revoke the key
Revoke the key for ChatGPT, the one ending in (MCP). Access stops at once. If you use Nation in ChatGPT again, it asks you to connect again.
Remove the app in ChatGPT if you want it gone
OpenAI's help article does not describe deleting a custom app. Revoking the key in Nation is what stops ChatGPT's access to your store.
If Nation does not work in ChatGPT
- The store you want cannot be picked: it needs an active plan, or it belongs to another Nation account. Sign in with the email that owns it.
- ChatGPT cannot reach the server: check that the URL is exactly https://mcp.withnation.ai/mcp, with /mcp at the end.
- ChatGPT works in the wrong store: one connection reaches one store. Revoke the key in Nation and connect again, choosing the other store.
- Changes do not show on your live site: storefront changes stay unpublished until you publish them. Ask the assistant to publish the storefront.
- ChatGPT can read your store but not change it: on Pro, developer mode connects read and fetch tools only. Changes need a Business, Enterprise or Edu plan.
- Nation is missing in the ChatGPT mobile app: custom MCP apps work on ChatGPT web only.
- Still stuck: email dk@withnation.ai with the email you sign in with, the store name, the assistant you used, what you asked and roughly when.
Where Nation fits
Nation
Category: an AI store builder
Nation says one description of what you make builds the store, then agents handle orders, customers and delivery and run ads, content and social posts, with you approving the work. The Nation connector lets ChatGPT work in one Nation store you choose.
Limits today
- Status: pre-launch, with a waitlist on withnation.ai.
- One connection reaches one store; connect again to work in another store.
- Only stores with an active plan can be connected.
- The assistant can change and delete things in your store, so read its confirmation prompts before you approve them.
Nation publishes this page about its own connector. Nation does not make ChatGPT, and the steps for ChatGPT come from its maker's documentation.
Describe what you makeQuestions about connecting Nation to ChatGPT
Do I need an API key to connect Nation to ChatGPT?
No. Nation's connector signs you in with OAuth, so you never copy a key. ChatGPT opens Nation's sign-in page, you enter your email and a one-time code, choose a store and select Connect. Nation then creates a dedicated key for that store itself, and you can revoke it in Settings, then Developer.
Can ChatGPT change my store without asking?
ChatGPT changes your store only when it calls one of Nation's write tools for you. Tools that delete, refund, cancel or reach outside Nation are marked as destructive or open-world, so the assistant can ask you first. Read those prompts before you approve them, and revoke the key in Nation if you want access to stop.
Can I connect more than one store to ChatGPT?
One connection reaches one store, the one you pick while signing in. To work in a different store, revoke the key for ChatGPT in Nation under Settings, then Developer, and connect again, choosing the other store. Stores without an active plan are shown in the list but cannot be picked.
Which ChatGPT plans can connect to Nation?
OpenAI's help article lists full MCP support, including actions that change data, in beta for Business, Enterprise and Edu plans on ChatGPT web. Pro users can connect MCP servers with read and fetch permissions in developer mode, so ChatGPT can look at your store but not change it. The article does not cover Plus or Free.
